SOME PICTURES FROM THE TRIP TO THE NORTHWEST

The truck and payloader were victims of what must have been some interesting episodes. Rich says you can't really see how precariously the truck is "parked". There's a nice drop-off on the other side. The payloader--who knows--looks like it just fell off of its pile of gravel.

Loading crates at Port de Paix.
The tomato jungle in Mole. The guys tell me there are quite a few green tomatoes now.
This is the church at Goumbier. We had taken pics in January; they've made some progress since then.

CHURCH SERVICE

I finally remembered to take the camera to church with me yesterday. The church here at Fermathe is considerably bigger than the little one we attend up in Mole. We're enjoying the fellowship here.

MORE PICTURES FROM MONDAY'S HIKE

The broken land.
One more view of the slump.
Part of this cemetery just fell away.
Splits in the rock.
These folks now live life on the edge.

THIS COMMUNITY IS FALLING APART--LITERALLY!

Pastor Rob Baker (field administrator here at BHM), Larry Russ, and Rich went out Monday on an investigation expedition. A couple of Haitian pastors had reported a landslide in the mountains that was destroying homes and threatening families. What they found was more of a slump than a landslide--a portion of the mountain is slowly sliding away into the valley--but it has indeed caused a great deal of hardship. There are approximately 35 families in this little mountain community not far from here. The pictures tell the story.
The hike---hard work!A view of the "slump" from across the valley.
This house was a victim of the shifting earth. We hear that folks were sleeping in these houses when they began to crack.
It gives new meaning to the words "a shaky foundation".
